Access to your property

We need to look for and treat fire ants on all targeted properties and are legally authorised to do so.

To eradicate fire ants from Australia, our staff must treat all properties in the eradication area. We need to do this multiple times over 2 years. This will be followed by several years of surveillance to make sure they don’t return.

We’ll need to come to your property to look for fire ants and treat any we find. Our teams will not enter your house or buildings. They only focus on outdoor areas where fire ants may be present.

What you should do

  • Stay informed about planned eradication activities in your area. Check the map of planned activities, and look out for:
    • brochures or letters in your mailbox
    • local advertising
    • emails
    • phone calls
    • text messages.
  • Fill out a property information form. We use this information to:
    • understand any issues accessing your property, such as dogs or locked gates
    • tailor a treatment program for your property.
  • Let our teams in to treat your property.
  • Follow the post-treatment instructions you get from our staff.

How to identify our staff

Our eradication officers:

  • carry official Queensland Government identification
  • wear high-visibility clothing
  • drive vehicles with our program’s logo on it
  • work Monday to Saturday from 7am to 3pm.

Queensland properties

We are authorised to access all Queensland properties for fire ant eradication activities under the Biosecurity Act 2014.

If our staff cannot access your property, they will leave a notice asking for access within a specific timeframe.

Although we can legally enter without your consent, we prefer to work with you to find a convenient time to do our work.

There may be penalties if you:

  • refuse to give our staff access
  • prevent staff from doing their work.

New South Wales properties

We’ll ask for your permission to come onto your property. We will work with you to find a convenient time to visit and do our work.

If our officers cannot access your property, they will leave a notice asking for access within a specific timeframe.

See NSW's Department of Primary Industries for more details.
